Save up all of your pennies and go to Le Vieux Jean for your next special occasion dinner.
The menu is French-inspired, with a focus on local and seasonal ingredients. The wine list is phenomenal.
Get the tasting menu, either the Le Vieux Jean or the surprise menu. The former is fewer courses and less expensive while the latter is more and more expensive. Both are excellent.
Should you want a less expensive option than a multiple course meal, the bruschetta with wild goose is really tasty as an appetizer and the Scottish venison makes for an excellent main course. The vegetarian options are also really good.
The inside is tiny. There is an upstairs but both spaces are very cosy. Impressively, there’s great acoustics, in no small part due to care that’s gone into the dining room set up.
It’s all table service and it’s excellent. Your wine glass won’t get empty before a lovely member of the wait staff turns up to refill it.
There are no English-language menus. The wine list is absolutely amazing.
Lunch will cost around €30. Dinner will cost around €50. This can go up, if you select a tasting menu or order wine (which you should do both).
