Cafe de V

With their creative but hit or miss menu, Cafe de V is a great place for an interesting meal, but be aware that the food can go either way.

The menu is standard Dutch, but changes frequently and has a creative flair. Dishes range from a standard kip sate (chicken in a peanut sauce) to pumpkin egg rolls.

Because the menu changes so frequently, it’s difficult to suggest any particular dish. Try the more creative menu items; they are very often interesting and delicious. They also offer several very good vegetarian options, which are often more creative than the non-vegetarian dishes. That being said, they usually have an experimental meat on the menu (guinea fowl, for example) that is also usually really good.

The front part of the restaurant looks like a typical Dutch “brown cafe”, with dark wooden walls decorated with various kitsch. The back has an impressive glass roof and a more upscale vibe.

The service is above average. The waitstaff is friendly and usually pretty responsive, although you do still need to flag them down on occasion.

English-language menus are available. They hold special events, including live music and a kids’ play day on Sundays. Check their website for the schedule
